White-Throated Sparrows prefer to eat off the ground. There will sometimes be as many as three or four on the ground underneath the feeder, pecking on seeds fallen from the feeder. They will hop out of sight behind a leaf of the nearby Rhododendron bush if they realize they are being watched.
